Since then, new trends in flooring evolved not only with what is popular with the people but also from technological advancements that allowed for more variety in colour, texture, shape and installation of existing flooring materials. For 2020, the past year’s trends will be taken a step further with more bold choices in colour, material and over-all look.

Wood Flooring
Wood flooring is always a classic choice, and you can never run out of design and installation ideas. From classic wooden floors to wood panelling on walls or ceilings, there are many types of wood flooring which can be used for the interior design especially this 2020 where new textures and hues will generate more variety.
Using reclaimed materials is always a good choice, especially if you want to conserve the environment and lessen your expenses. From driftwood to old panels from barns or other structures, wood is a solid and classic choice for flooring. From reclaimed wood, fumed wood flooring will be more widely used in 2020, especially since the process to achieve the burnt-look do not require any staining – making it easier to reproduce. Fumed wood or smoked wood – from the process of smoking or exposing the wood to high concentrates of Ammonia – displays rich, dark tones which highlight the natural grain of the wood.
An alternative to glossy-brown or dark-stained flooring is bleached & blanched wood flooring. This type of wood flooring brightens up a place because of the ashy, white-washed look—which still displays the natural grain of the wood–that is left of the material after removing the stain of the wood. Bleached & blanched wood is best used in areas where you want to create a bright and comfortable feeling, such as in receiving areas of hospitals and aged-care homes.
Like the past years, distressed wood flooring will continue to be a favourite among many, especially those that desire a rustic or a modern-rustic look to their space. Both small and large tiles will be used together with other materials to create various patterns and different designs. Graphic Tiles
Graphic tiles are perfect for stylised installations, especially when you want to create a certain look from the patterns of the tiles. Herringbone and Chevron will continue to be popular for parquet installations, especially if they want something different from wide planks. Alternatively, Mixed Width installation will also be more in use for homes with modern yet classic feel to them – since the mixed-width pattern adds extra details and draws more attention than ordinary installations.
The checkered style, which is popular for kitchens and bathrooms, will now also be commonly used in dining rooms or living areas, especially in commercial spaces that want to give off a vintage feel. But unlike the past which used only black and white or vintage palettes, 2020 will also see more bold colours to match modern commercial spaces, especially themed rooms.
Printed or Patterned Tiles will also be more popular due to advancements in technology which makes printing images or patterns on tiles easier. From large images broken down by each tile to graphic patterns duplicated on each tile, printed or patterned tiles will give more character to a room. Printed tiles that do not necessarily have the same pattern or the same colour will also be used together, especially in creating featured walls or accent walls using flooring materials.
