Marmoleum is often confused with Linoleum and perhaps it’s because Marmoleum is the new and improved Linoleum. The main difference lies in how Marmoleum allows more flexibility in terms of colour, design, patterns as well as in ease of installation. Marmoleum or “marbleized Linoleum” is a trademark brand of Linoleum flooring created and developed by Forbo Flooring Systems, a global provider of premium commercial and residential floor coverings.
Marmoleum, like Linoleum, is also often confused with vinyl flooring especially since all three look quite the same in photos, and you can only distinguish between materials when walking on the floor or directly touching the flooring materials. Unlike vinyl flooring which is made from non-hazardous synthetic materials, Linoleum and Marmoleum are all made from natural materials, mainly Linseed oil and other minerals, which makes them more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
Marmoleum Flooring Installation Benefits
The raw materials for Marmoleum do not contain phthalates and plasticisers or substances used in plastics and other synthetic materials which increases their flexibility. Since Marmoleum is made from natural materials with no synthetic components which can contain allergens, Marmoleum is Asthma & Allergy Friendly™ certified. This makes Marmoleum a wise choice especially for those suffering from extreme cases of asthma and allergies. Hospitals, aged-care homes, and the likes will also benefit from Marmoleum flooring especially since their residents are more sensitive to their environment and require more careful tending to. Marmoleum also possesses anti-static properties which come from having anti-microbial properties which inhibit the growth of microorganism and can, therefore, assure that your family is protected against pathogens that may cause diseases.
Marmoleum Sheet is available in rolls of 2×30 metres (wxl). Forbo offers more than 150 colours and in Linear, Marble and Solid patterns.
Marmoleum Tile is available in over 50 colours and 3 varying sizes. Forbo encourages the use of different styles to create a design of your own.

Best places to use Marmoleum Flooring
Marmoleum is durable and sustainable, making it the perfect alternative to other conventional flooring materials. It is also a favourite among builders tasked to cover large commercial and industrial spaces like school and office corridors because it can withstand heavy traffic and is easy to clean. Its anti-static properties make it conducive for everyday use allowing children to run around without slipping. Since it also has anti-microbial properties, Marmoleum doesn’t accumulate dust and stains, making it a good and safe choice for hospitals and aged-care homes. The only maintenance the flooring requires is the occasional damp mopping to polish the surface.
